This Week at Seward Street – Feb 9

This week we worked on an order of convention badge ribbons.  We don’t promote it, and all our ribbon business is by word of mouth, but we make badge ribbons for several conventions and social groups throughout the year.

In the “normal” business world, badge ribbons are used to identify and categorize people at trade shows and conferences.  You might be issued a ribbon that says Vendor, Buyer, Speaker, or Staff. The ribbon is attached to the bottom of your entry badge so people can see at a glance what role you have at the conference.

This also applies to fannish conventions, like Sci-fi, Furry, or Anime.  But in addition to the “official” ribbons there is also a subculture of personal ribbons to trade or give away.  These are often catch-phrases from popular shows, or funny inside jokes.

This convention requested both sizes of ribbons that we offer, 4″ wide and 3.25″wide.

The cool customer order this week is the Spiral Hare design we added just a couple weeks ago. It was ordered in our white reflective vinyl.

This week we have been mostly just doing what we do, making decals.  As a fun side project, I took that Ukulele design I made a couple weeks ago and turned it into a retro 80’s vacation t-shirt design.  We don’t have the ability to sell t-shirts on our site, so you will have to get it from our Etsy shop.

This Week at Seward Street – Jan 26

The big project on our table this week is video.  All the online seller gurus are pounding the drums about tiktok and Instagram reels.  I have resisted for as long as I have because what we do isn’t all that exciting.  Who wants to watch videos about weeding decals?  Well, apparently, more than we thought.  Here is a link to our very first Instagram Reel.

The cool customer order this week is our Rubber Duck  design in orange holographic glitter vinyl. This design was inspired by a customer request, and it turned out to be pretty popular, especially in the glitter vinyl.  This order was for 2 glitter ducks, one in orange and one in silver.

This Week at Seward Street – Jan 19

This week has been filled with emails.  Once the holidays are well in the rear view mirror, everyone’s thoughts turn to Spring.  For gardeners, this is when the seed catalogs come out, and the garden planning begins. For bike and motorcycle riders, this is when you start daydreaming about those first spring rides, and you begin the process of getting your gear prepped and ready.  For us, this means we are suddenly flooded with emails about custom decal orders.

The cool customer order this week is our Flying Owl  design in green reflective vinyl. This design was inspired by some background art in Snow White. In the dwarf’s cottage is a set of stairs that have owl heads carved on the ends.  I like how simple the design was, just a few lines that you only saw for a moment, but , clearly an owl head.

This Week at Seward Street – Jan 12

This week has finally turned into winter.  Here in the Midwest, it was a warm fall-like temperature all the way through December.  Then bam! We get a big snow storm in Jan, and it’s been bitter cold ever since.   To make things even more exiting, our furnace decided this was the time to stop working properly.  It wasn’t a complicated or expensive fix, but we were quite chilly for a couple days!

Another 11 retired designs have been added back into our Etsy shop. As of this writing, at 591 designs, we are very close to hitting our goal of 600 designs on Etsy. And we added another 4 new designs to our web site.

The cool customer order this week is our Hamsa design in black reflective vinyl. This was another design that was originally a customer  request.  I always enjoy coming up with my own versions of classic designs. We get a lot of good ideas from our customers, so please do not hesitate to reach out to us with custom requests!

Happy New Year everyone! We all hope you had  a great holiday!  Here is what happened this past week.

Another 24 retired designs have been added back into our Etsy shop, and there are another 4 new additions to our web site.

I spent a chunk of time this week figuring out how to make all our social media talk to each other, along with Hoostuite.com and IFTTT.com.  If you would like to follow us, here are the links to our Instagram and our Facebook.

I made the best pot of chicken soup from rotisserie chicken leftovers. We are going to be enjoying it for days!

The cool customer order this week is our Reflective Lady Skulls Set in gold reflective vinyl.  One of our very first sets was our 5 Skull Set, but sometime later we had a request for something similar, but more feminine.  This was the result, and it has been a popular seller ever since!  We get a lot of good ideas from our customers, so please do not hesitate to reach out to us with custom requests!

This Week at Seward Street – Dec 29

It’s the last week of 2021, and it’s always very quiet the week between Christmas and the new year, so not a whole lot to report this week.  Our marketing is planned out through April, if you want to be notified of our sales, please sign up for our mailing list.  We have added back in about 40 retired designs to our Etsy shop, and there are 4 new additions to our web site.  And I figured out how to replace the faucet on our bathroom tub.  Just chugging along.

The cool customer order this week is an Easter Island Tiki Head in purple reflective vinyl.  When I researched the Moai heads for this design, all the illustrations had the faces all angry and dour.  But the heads themselves are not all cranky.  So I gave mine a little smile to make him more contemplative.

Things were quieter this week. As an online business everything slows down about a week before Christmas as shoppers switch to in-person shopping for those last minute gifts.  We use this quiet time to recomboulate from the chaos of the last couple weeks, and to prepare for the new year.

This week has been all about getting orders out as fast as we can so they have as much chance as possible to arrive in time for Santa. It’s always a hectic push just before the big day!

The cool customer order is from a couple weeks ago, but I have been holding it for this post. It was an order for 2 of our Garden Gnome decals in reflective vinyl, one in red and one in green. I am certain this pair will brighten their holidays!
